Dr. Irwin Gross Co-Authors American Journal of Hematology Article on Anemia Management for Patients with Congestive Heart Failure

A Critical Review in the January 2017 issue of the American Journal of Hematology characterizes anemia as an independent risk factor for adverse patient outcomes. The abstract of the publication specifies that no guidelines for anemia management in patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) exist, despite its high incidence and potential for cost-effectiveness.  Further, this work dives into how management of this condition in the specified patient population remains as an unmet medical need, even though anemia and iron deficiency are highly prevalent. As a “call to action,” the authors that include Dr. Irwin Gross, Senior Medical Director at Accumen, call for the adoption of clinical care pathways to manage anemia detection in patients with CHF as recommended best practices in order to improve patient outcomes. ®Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
